Londonderry's
Philosophy

Londonderry School is … a sustained partnership of children, parents, teachers and community. High levels of parent involvement in a school with a family atmosphere are hallmarks of our program. Inherent in Londonderry’s educational philosophy is a core belief that children learn at their own pace and that academics must involve the "whole child." Learn more about Londonderry's philosophy and history and read the Top 10 Reasons to Send Your Kid to Londonderry School.

The
Curriculum

The curriculum is designed to build knowledge along with respect for others, responsibility, self-esteem, and independence. Londonderry nurtures exploration, discovery, friendship, and enthusiasm. The focus is on a community of learners interacting with each other to achieve a common goal. Londonderry seeks to empower children as designers and inventors, enabling them to learn about the world through their own explorations and experiments.

An Educational Model for Our World

Londonderry has been an innovator in education since a group of parents initiated the school in 1971 as an alternative to traditional education. Londonderry’s philosophy of education that supports individual students’ abilities and interests has gained the approval of the community, with enrollment growing from its original 15 students to 185 in 2000. Londonderry’s curriculum has always encouraged children’s learning about nature and concern for our environment. The school has gained local and national recognition for its cutting edge use of technology and art in integrated environmental studies. Further, in all endeavors, Londonderry has been conscious of its role as an educational model for the community. Whether it’s in reading, writing, art, computer, or science education, Londonderry has always been a leader and mentor to all. Londonderry’s model construction project is a logical and significant extension to its educational service to the community.

Creative Development

The curriculum encourages creative development through activities developing problem solving and thinking skills, as well as engagement at all levels in art, music, drama and both organized and free play.

Preschool Program Londonderry's setting provides an opportunity for young children to interact with their peers in a stimulating, creative and nuturing environment. Children can make choices daily to select activities in reading and math readiness, the arts, natural and social sciences, cooking, outdoor activities, and field trips.
