Back-to-School Picnic

Londonderry’s Board of Trustees hosts this gathering at a local park to welcome Londonderry students, staff and families back to school. Main dishes are provided and families contribute side dishes, beverages and desserts. This afternoon picnic is always a great opportunity for renewing acquaintances, meeting other Londonderry families, making new friends and asking questions.

Parents In School Night

At the beginning of the school year, parents are invited to find out what it's like to be a student in their child's classroom. It’s a great time to learn more about what your child will be doing this year and important upcoming events!

Primitive Camping Trips

Rick Stevens, school administrator and teacher, has been organizing primitive camping experiences for older Londonderry students as part of the school’s science and nature curriculum for many years. Vicki and Margaret's 5th/6th-grade classes go in the fall, and Pete and Diana's 3rd/4th grade classes head to the wild during spring. Each year, students look forward to cooking over an open fire, sleeping (???) in tents, taking nature walks day and night — all at Fowler's Hollow State Park in Perry County.

Preschool & Kindergarten Mini-Plays

On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, the preschool and kindergarten classes perform a play and/or musical they have produced for the school’s students, staff and family members.

Elementary School Class Plays

Throughout the year, students from grades 1 through 8 perform plays and/or musicals that they have produced. Parents, siblings, grandparents and friends are always invited to these creative productions!

International Day

This all-school event features each classroom as a country or culture. During the morning, students visit the different “countries” and try out fun activities. In the afternoon, everyone tastes delicious foods from around the world!

Winter Festival

Spend a day with your family during a wintry day in December. Make a soft pretzel, a gingerbread house, get your face painted, shop at the silent auction, enjoy fabulous food at “The Londonderry Café” and much more.

Science Fair

This all-school event usually takes place at the end of January or in early February. All preschool and kindergarten classes submit group projects highlighting their knowledge of the scientific process. Younger elementary students may voluntarily submit individual projects. Older students work with staff members to plan and carry out individual science projects with a high degree of rigor. Science specialists from Dickinson College and other local institutions serve as judges. Students also vote on a “People’s Choice Award.” Selected 7th and 8th grade projects are entered into the Capital Region Science Fair, where Londonderry School students have been frequent award winners.

Annual Gala & Silent Auction

Since 2006, Londonderry has hosted a “grown-ups only” evening planned around a festive theme. The event features good food, frosty drinks, music, fun company, and a live auction featuring numerous treasures, including one-of-a-kind furniture or art embellished by each classroom. Look for your invitation at the beginning of the year.

Arts Fair

Londonderry celebrates Spring with this all-day arts festival. Throughout the day, students visit rooms around the school to view individual “masterpieces” and enjoy activities in the arts — painting, collages, drama, movement, music and more. During this time, the annual art auction takes place in the art room, where works-of-art from each classroom and “local” artists are featured for interested collectors.

Spring Musical

The Spring Musical has taken place in one way, shape or form since 1991. The production features every student in the school — from the 2-year-olds to the eighth-graders, and always entertains the families and friends in attendance. Stay tuned for the date of this heartwarming event!

End-of-Year Picnic

This picnic for students, staff, families and alumni takes place in early June at a local park. The picnic usually begins in the morning and lasts all day (weather permitting). Bring a blanket and sun lotion. The school orders 6-foot subs, and families bring side dishes, desserts and drinks.

Teacher Appreciation Night

Parents put together this grown-up only event to show their appreciation for all that Londonderry’s teachers have done to make the school year special.
